BC PNP Invites Construction, Healthcare and Childcare Workers in October Draw

British Columbia has issued new provincial immigration invitations to workers in construction, healthcare, childcare and veterinary occupations, giving eligible candidates another opportunity to pursue Canadian permanent residence.

The October 8, 2026, British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) selection round focused on specific occupations rather than conducting a general invitation round for all skilled workers. Minimum registration scores ranged from 76 to 99 points across the reported categories.

For Nigerians planning to immigrate to Canada, the draw highlights why provincial immigration deserves attention alongside Express Entry. However, these invitations were targeted, and meeting the minimum score alone does not guarantee selection or permanent residence.

What happened in the October 8 BC PNP draw?

The reported results were as follows:

Priority occupation groupInvitationsMinimum score
Construction occupations11594
Healthcare occupations8276
Early childhood educators8699
Veterinary-care occupationsFewer than 586

The construction category received the largest number of invitations in this round, while early childhood educators faced the highest published minimum score.

Healthcare had the lowest minimum score among the categories with a published numerical cutoff.

These figures reflect different selection groups within the provincial programme. They should not be treated as one shared cutoff for everyone applying through British Columbia.

Why did British Columbia target these occupations?

The draw reflects the province’s use of targeted selection to address particular labour market priorities.

Construction workers can contribute to building and infrastructure projects. Healthcare professionals support essential services, while early childhood educators help meet childcare needs. Veterinary professionals provide services related to animal health and welfare.

However, the province does not invite every person working in these sectors. Candidates must fall within the occupations covered by the relevant selection round and meet the programme’s applicable requirements.

Having a qualification in construction, healthcare or childcare is not enough on its own. A candidate’s actual job duties, work experience, employment circumstances and registration profile may all matter.

What does the 94-point construction cutoff mean?

British Columbia issued 115 invitations to candidates in priority construction occupations with a minimum score of 94.

The cutoff remained unchanged from the province’s September 10 construction round, although the number of invitations increased from 104 to 115.

For eligible candidates already registered with the BC PNP, this provides a useful comparison with the previous round.

However, applicants should not assume that a score of 94 will guarantee an invitation in the next draw. The number of registrations in the pool, provincial priorities and the selection criteria can affect future results.

For Nigerian tradespeople and construction professionals, the first step is to establish whether their occupation and circumstances fit an eligible BC PNP pathway. They should not make major financial commitments based only on the latest cutoff.

Healthcare workers received the lowest cutoff

British Columbia invited 82 candidates across its priority healthcare occupations at a minimum score of 76.

That cutoff was unchanged from September 10, when the province issued 143 invitations in the same broad healthcare selection group.

The lower cutoff does not mean that every healthcare worker has a straightforward route to permanent residence. Candidates must still meet the programme’s requirements and fall within the applicable occupational priorities.

Healthcare professionals should also distinguish between immigration eligibility and permission to practise their profession in British Columbia.

For example, a nurse or other regulated healthcare professional may need to meet provincial licensing or registration requirements. A successful immigration application does not automatically grant professional authorization.

Why was the childcare cutoff higher?

The province issued 86 invitations to early childhood educators at a minimum score of 99.

The score matched the September 10 cutoff, although the number of invitations fell from 182.

This shows that invitation numbers can change even when the published minimum score remains the same.

People working in early childhood education should verify that their job duties correspond to an eligible occupation and that they meet the relevant programme requirements. A general childcare job title does not automatically establish eligibility as an early childhood educator.

Applicants should also check whether their qualifications meet any applicable professional requirements in British Columbia.

Can Nigerians apply for the BC PNP from Nigeria?

Potentially, depending on the immigration pathway and the applicant’s circumstances.

However, this particular draw should not be interpreted as a general invitation for overseas workers in the listed occupations to submit applications.

British Columbia’s Skills Immigration pathways have specific requirements relating to factors such as employment, qualifications, work experience and registration. Some routes require a qualifying job offer from an eligible employer in the province.

Candidates living in Nigeria should identify the precise pathway available to them and review its current requirements before paying for assessments, recruitment services or other application-related expenses.

They should also avoid assuming that an employer’s promise of a job automatically guarantees provincial nomination.

How competitive is British Columbia’s immigration pool?

The latest reported figures showed 7,695 registrations in the BC PNP Skills Immigration pool as of October 6, 2026.

The largest groups included 1,444 registrations scoring between 90 and 99 points and 1,426 scoring between 100 and 109 points.

This provides useful context for understanding the latest invitation round. Candidates are competing within a wider pool, and the province may select registrations according to specific priorities rather than simply inviting everyone above one universal score.

The registration pool also changes over time as new candidates enter, invitations are issued and registrations are updated.

A candidate’s score should therefore be considered alongside the eligibility rules and selection priorities for the intended pathway.

What should applicants do next?

If British Columbia is part of your Canadian immigration plan, take these steps before making an application.

1. Confirm your occupation. Check whether your actual duties correspond to an occupation eligible under the relevant provincial pathway.

2. Review employment requirements. Determine whether you need a qualifying job offer and whether the employer meets the programme’s criteria.

3. Check your eligibility and score. Understand how the programme assesses candidates and whether your registration is competitive for the relevant selection group.

4. Prepare supporting documents. Keep employment records, educational documents and other evidence accurate and consistent.

5. Verify professional requirements. If your occupation is regulated, research licensing or registration requirements separately from immigration eligibility.

6. Monitor official announcements. Selection priorities and invitation thresholds can change. Previous results are useful reference points, not promises of future invitations.

Should you choose the BC PNP instead of Express Entry?

That depends on your circumstances.

Express Entry manages applications for several federal economic immigration programmes and also supports category-based selection. The BC PNP has its own provincial pathways, eligibility requirements and selection priorities.

A provincial route may be worth exploring if your qualifications, employment circumstances and intended destination align with British Columbia’s requirements. However, not every candidate qualifies for a provincial programme, and provincial nomination is not automatic permanent residence approval.

The best approach is to compare the available pathways rather than assuming that a particular province is the easiest option.

Final thoughts

British Columbia’s October 8 draw issued invitations across construction, healthcare, childcare and veterinary-care occupations, with minimum published scores ranging from 76 to 99.

For Nigerian applicants, the most important lesson is that provincial immigration selection is becoming increasingly targeted. Occupation, employment circumstances and pathway eligibility matter alongside a candidate’s score.

Before committing to an application, confirm that you qualify for the relevant programme and understand what evidence you need to provide.
