Manitoba Invites 1,304 Immigration Candidates in October Draw: What Applicants Need to Know

Manitoba issued 1,304 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) in its October 22, 2026, immigration draw, marking a substantial increase from the 340 invitations issued on October 8. However, the latest results also highlight an important reality for foreign workers: many of the selected candidates already have strong connections to Manitoba.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) selected candidates through its Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Stream pathways. The largest group consisted of candidates who had completed post-secondary education in Manitoba themselves or through their spouse.

For Nigerians hoping to immigrate to Canada, the draw offers useful insight into Manitoba’s current selection priorities. But the invitation numbers should not be interpreted as evidence that anyone applying from abroad can enter the pool and expect similar results.

How Many Candidates Did Manitoba Invite?

Manitoba’s Expression of Interest (EOI) Draw #282 took place on October 22, 2026. The province issued invitations across three selection groups.

The 734 invitations in the first group went to candidates whose profiles indicated that they or their spouse had completed post-secondary studies in Manitoba.

The second group covered the highest-scoring eligible profiles under the relevant Skilled Worker in Manitoba selection. The final 57 invitations were issued through strategic recruitment initiatives, which included employer services, Francophone and regional communities, and other specified initiatives.

Manitoba did not publish a minimum score for the strategic recruitment group.

Why Did Manitoba Issue So Many Invitations?

The October 22 draw was significantly larger than the previous draw on October 8, which issued 340 LAAs.

However, the increase does not mean Manitoba has opened an unrestricted immigration route for overseas applicants. The latest draw focused heavily on people already connected to the province, particularly through work and post-secondary education.

This distinction matters because an EOI invitation is not the same as a provincial nomination or permanent residence approval. Candidates who receive an LAA must still submit a complete application and demonstrate that they meet the programme’s requirements.

The number of invitations in one draw also does not establish how many candidates will be invited in the next round. Manitoba’s future selections may use different priorities and criteria.

Can Nigerians Apply for the Manitoba PNP From Outside Canada?

Some Manitoba pathways may be available to eligible applicants outside Canada, but the latest draw should not be treated as a direct invitation opportunity for every overseas candidate.

The Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway is designed around qualifying connections to Manitoba, including eligible employment and other programme-specific requirements. Candidates applying from abroad should instead investigate whether they qualify for an appropriate Skilled Worker Stream pathway or a strategic recruitment initiative.

Eligibility depends on the particular route and the province’s current requirements. Applicants may need to demonstrate relevant work experience, education, language proficiency, a qualifying employment relationship, recruitment through an eligible initiative or other specified criteria.

Having an occupation that is in demand somewhere in Canada does not automatically qualify someone for Manitoba’s programme.

What Are Manitoba’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives?

The 57 invitations issued through strategic recruitment were divided among five initiatives:

InitiativeInvitations
Employer Services21
Francophone Community16
Regional Communities15
Ethnocultural Communities2
Temporary Public Policy to Facilitate Work Permits for Prospective PNP Candidates3
Total57

These selections show that Manitoba uses more than one mechanism to identify potential immigrants. Some initiatives are connected to employers, regional communities or French-speaking populations.

However, applicants should not assume they can access an initiative simply by expressing interest in it. They must meet the applicable criteria and follow the relevant recruitment or application process.

Candidates should also confirm whether an initiative is accepting applicants before paying for professional services or making relocation plans.

What Does This Mean for Express Entry Candidates?

Of the 1,304 LAAs issued, 353 went to candidates who declared a valid Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code.

This shows that some selected candidates were also part of the federal Express Entry system. Nevertheless, an MPNP invitation is a provincial process, and candidates must follow the instructions attached to their specific invitation.

An LAA does not itself award the 600 additional CRS points associated with an Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination. Those points come after a qualifying nomination is issued and accepted in the Express Entry system.

Applicants should also avoid confusing Manitoba’s EOI scores with the federal Comprehensive Ranking System. They are different scoring systems, and the minimum scores in this draw are not CRS cut-offs.

What Should Applicants Do Now?

1. Check which pathway matches your circumstances

Start with Manitoba’s official immigration website. Determine whether you are eligible for a pathway based on your current employment, education, recruitment circumstances or other qualifying connections.

If you live outside Canada, pay particular attention to whether the stream accepts overseas applicants and what evidence it requires.

2. Do not rely on the invitation total alone

The 1,304 invitations may appear encouraging, but most were issued through selection groups with specific eligibility conditions. A large draw does not mean all applicants have the same chance of being selected.

Review the actual requirements rather than assuming that the number of invitations makes the programme easy to access.

3. Prepare credible supporting documents

Depending on the pathway, you may need educational credentials, employment references, language test results, proof of work experience and evidence of a qualifying job offer or recruitment connection.

Make sure your documents are accurate and consistent. If you work in a regulated occupation, check whether you must demonstrate licensing or registration requirements.

4. Keep your profile accurate

If you are already in Manitoba’s EOI pool, ensure that your information reflects your current circumstances. Do not claim education, employment, licensing or other connections that you cannot prove.

An inaccurate profile can undermine an application even if a candidate receives an invitation.

5. Verify the next steps after an invitation

If you receive an LAA, read the accompanying instructions carefully and check the submission deadline. You must submit the required application and supporting evidence before Manitoba can assess your eligibility for nomination.

If you were not invited, review your eligibility and profile rather than assuming the next draw will have the same selection groups or score thresholds.

Final Thoughts

Manitoba’s October 22 draw demonstrates that provincial nomination remains an important part of Canada’s economic immigration system. The province issued 1,304 invitations, with substantial numbers going to candidates who had studied in Manitoba or were otherwise eligible under its worker selection pathways.

For Nigerians considering Canadian permanent residence, the central lesson is to identify a pathway that fits their actual circumstances. Manitoba may be worth exploring, but the latest draw is not a guarantee of selection for people applying from overseas.
