Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): Eligibility and How to Apply

The AIP is a permanent residence pathway designed to attract workers to New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It is employer‑driven and requires a job offer from a designated employer.

Eligibility

  1. Work experience: You need at least 1,560 hours of paid work in TEER 0–4 occupations within the last five years. Hours can be from multiple jobs but must not exceed your authorized employment limits and cannot be self‑employed canada.ca. International graduates from an Atlantic post‑secondary institution (2‑year program) who lived in the region for at least 16 months during studies are exempt from the work experience requirement canada.ca.
  2. Education: For TEER 0 or 1 job offers, you need a Canadian one‑year post‑secondary credential or a foreign equivalent with ECA; for TEER 2–4 job offers, at least a Canadian high school diploma or foreign equivalent with ECA.
  3. Language requirement: Minimum CLB/NCLC 5 for TEER 0–3 job offers and CLB/NCLC 4 for TEER 4 canada.ca.
  4. Settlement funds: You must show enough funds to support yourself and your family unless you are already working in Canada.

Step‑by‑Step Process

  1. Get a job offer from a designated employer:
    • Search for opportunities with employers designated by Atlantic provinces. Job offers must be full‑time, non‑seasonal and last at least one year (or be permanent for TEER 4 jobs). The job cannot be from a company you or your spouse own canada.ca.
    • The employer will provide an Offer of Employment to a Foreign National (IMM 0157) form, which both of you sign. Ask your employer for proof of designation.
  2. Obtain a settlement plan:
    • After receiving the job offer, contact a settlement service provider organization like Worldbridge Immigration Services to create a free settlement plan for yourself and your family.
  3. Get a provincial endorsement:
    • The employer submits an endorsement application to the province with your job offer and settlement plan. If approved, you will receive a Certificate of Endorsement which you need for your permanent residence application.
  4. Prepare documents:
    • Take a language test, get an ECA (if required), gather proof of funds, police certificates and other documents. The official checklist is on the Government of Canada site canada.ca.
  5. Apply for permanent residence:
    • Submit your application through IRCC’s online portal, including forms, fees and biometrics. If approved, travel to Canada with your Confirmation of Permanent Residence, visa/eTA and supporting documents.

Worldbridge Immigration Services can help you through the application processes. Book a consultation to get started.
